HORRIBLE SMELL but does the job
Submitted 05-21-18
clear No, I would not recommend this to a friend
We're VERY disappointed there has been a manufacturing change and the filters now give our water a HORRIBLE chemical smell. Even my hands and dishes smell like awful chemicals. The new smell appeared immediately after we changed the filter. I even checked it is not our water but checking the unfiltered water from our outdoor faucets. These filters were previously made in Mexico but are now made in Taiwan. What happened? We've been using GE filters for years. This has been our whole house filter during that time and it has been doing its job. We're on city water and replace them every 3 months because our city's system is quite old. As such we always have a large supply of filters on hand, which is now gone (May 2018).With our supply of old stock on hand exhausted, we just installed one of the filters from our new supply. The new filters have the new label shown here but have darker blue ends than pictured here. The label shows PC85549 & 10/16. The filters are stated Made in Taiwan. There is no NSF seal. The old filters have the bright blue ends and a label with larger graphics. The ends are embossed Mexico. The label shows PC 71495 8/12 Part No. 147461 Rev. C. Plus, the old label had the NSF seal. The UPC number is the same for both, 0-84691-79801-9.I've attached photos of the old labeling so you will know the difference.
